WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MANEUVERING WRENCHES?

There are many models of maneuvering wrenches, commonly called wrenches, based on their use. Whether you are a mechanic, a plumber, a repairer, a tire repairer, or if you simply like to do chores at home, it is always useful to review and deepen the use of these tools . Let’s do it together.

OPEN WRENCHES

Let’s start from the most used ones, the standard length open wrenches, or spanners. These wrenches make it possible to tighten and detach by gripping only two of the six corners of any bolt, screw and square or hexagonal nut. In this case, it is preferable to talk about the edges of a bolt, rather than its faces, since, when you tighten a bolt, the spanner grips the ends of the two sides with which it comes into contact. Since this wrench kind is not adjustable, it is important to remember that the wrench and the bolt must be exactly the same size, otherwise you risk damaging the latter. It is also advisable to have two sets of wrenches, it may happen that you have to use two wrenches at the same time, for example if you maneuver a nut with a bolt or a locknut.

POLYGONAL WRENCHES

A variant of the open wrench is the polygonal or star-shaped spanner, a name deriving from the shape of the ring at the end. This shape allows the wrench to adapt to both hexagonal and polygonal bolts, as the inside of the ring at the end of the wrench has a twelve-sided shape. This wrench, unlike the previous one, grips all sides of the bolt, better distributing its strength on all sides available. This way it is possible to have an excellent grip under any circumstances, at the same time avoiding damage to the nuts or the wrench slipping away during tightening when exerting great efforts.

Within the polygonal wrenches it is appropriate to make further clarifications. In fact, in this category we can distinguish simple or double polygonal wrenches, or straight, special or curved wrenches, the latter also called Z wrenches for their shape. Within the first subdivision, the wrenches are distinguished according to whether it is possible to lock from one end, in the case of simple wrenches, or both, in the case of double wrenches. The second subdivision, however, refers to the shape of the wrench, because, unlike the straight wrenches, the special or curved ones allow you to lock in tight spaces and to circumvent any obstacles.

COMBINATION WRENCHES

Combination wrenches are an additional wrench type. These tools have a fork end and a polygonal end, and are therefore suitable for tightening hexagonal nuts. Obviously, since they are usually of equal size, when you buy this tool, you should directly buy a set, this way you will be able to perform different types of different jobs, if necessary.

In case you would rather not purchase an entire set of wrenches, there is always the opportunity to use an adjustable wrench, like the roller wrench, so called for the capability of being adjusted through a roll, which makes it adaptable to multiple measures within a certain range. However, if you know you will be working on bolts of very different sizes, it is likely that you need more than one roll wrench anyway. Additionally, these wrenches can not be used for strong tightening. It all depends on your needs!

OTHER PROFESSIONAL WRENCHES

The following maneuvering wrenches are used less, but no less important: wrenches for fittings, similar to the combined wrenches but with rings cut to allow the grip of nuts with connecting pipes; T-wrenches, mainly used for car spark plugs, with a long handle and with a T-shaped maneuvering pole; tube wrenches, with one or both ends in hexagonal or polygonal shape, but in order to rotate them it is necessary the aid of a steel bar or a ratchet, to be inserted into the special eyelet; pipe wrenches, similar to tube wrenches but bent 90° and with both ends of the same size; sector wrenches, in the shape of a half-moon sector with pick-up nose piece; Phillips wrenches, mainly used to loosen the nuts on cars tires.

We would also like to remind you that the socket wrenches and the dynamometric wrenches, of which we have already spoken extensively, are maneuvering wrenches as well.

Finally, to combine the benefits of operating wrenches and ratchets, there are also maneuvering wrenches combined with an integrated reversible ratchet! This means that it is now possible to tighten using this particular type of operating wrench, by selecting the clamping direction via a lever or by inverting the square drive. Moreover, you can find these ratchet combination wrenches in an articulated version, in order to work even in the most difficult spaces. In short, you can find the model that best suits your needs in our catalog!

As always, we will never get tire of saying this, quality is a very important attribute. In fact, poor quality wrenches not only do not allow a good grip, but also make your job more difficult. Furthermore, being made of low-resistance materials, they also risk breaking when tightening your bolts, causing damage to you, those around you and the object you are working on. For these reasons, the tools that I have selected to be included in the catalog are the result of the design and advanced studies of the research and development departments, to guarantee safety and high performance in every moment of your work and never betray you when needed.
